Alright, excellent chapter, one of the best yet.

Here are the actual inspirations for some of the people so far: (note: Brazillian names that begin with R are pronounced with an "H" sound, so Renzo = Henzo).

Hideo Kano
Name: = Jigoro Kano (founder of Kodokan Judo)
Inspiration: Mitsuyo Maeda doubtlessly (the man who brought Judo to Brazil, allowing them to found BJJ). Also nicknamed Conde Koma (lit. The Count of Combat).

Wallad Barbosa
Name: = Wallid Ismail (famous BJJ practicioner) + Edson Barboza ( ranked #10 UFC lightweight (MMA), recently announced a move to featherweight)
Inspiration: Inflated record comes from Rickson Gracie (who got it that high by counting sparring), combination of BJJ and striking likely comes from Renzo Gracie, addition of taekwondo brings to mind Barboza who has a black belt in TKD and a brown belt in BJJ.

Carl Grace
Name: Carl Grace = Carlson Gracie, or possibly Carlos Gracie Jr. or Sr.

Elio Dacascos
Name: = Helio Gracie (super important to development of BJJ) + Mark Dacascos (American actor + amateur martial artist)

NB: The history of Vale Tudo they present has almost zero relation to real life

@dokidoki I'm kind of worried about MCs relevance. Not only is everyone already so much stronger, some of their roots are being ultimate fighters coming from esteemed families who trained them since birth and have since fought to the death for years. Its going to be really hard to fit him into the mix in a way that feels earned. Especially in the limited time frame of High school.

This is definitely one of the best chapters yet, not just because of the exposition and real-world martial arts references, but also because the plot THICKENS.

@TheStuffedUnicorn same, legit the only thing the series apparently tried to do by making him appear special is by having him apparently be able to predict hits and dodge them before it happens thx to his dad smacking him in the face when he kidnapped lil sis and causing MC to have that forehead scar AND the double jointed thing......other than those 2 things MC has zero chance fighting anyone unless author decides to pull some ass move and make him OP for no reason

It shouldn't have to be said, but I'll appreciate anyway: thank goodness for the actual central plotline developments. Please keep this going, if you're not going to bother showing more of Fight Class 3 then it'll have to be with lore.

@0takuDragonSlayer Those & his "special eyes" , are the only things tethering him to relevancy. And I'm not sure thats enough to overcome a lifetime of training that all of his classmates have had. I just hope he doesn't become strong too soon, or else it will feel unearned.

Except this happens a lot in real life sports as well.
there have been fighters with little to no background in MMA showing up outta no where and turning heads
Starting early is recommended to be better. Not the end all be all path for humans to become better fighters
It sounds unfair but that is LITERALLY life.

@0takuDragonSlayer dude what are you talking about? Frank Shamrock was trained by the motherfucker who put UFC on the map. He saw Ken , joined his gym, Ken trained him personally. And then he traveled the world training & fighting. Junior Dos Santos started with Capoira then BJJ then Boxing. It took him a few years and then he went professional. He was quicker than most yeah, but he is incredibly talented.

What we were talking about when this chapter came out, is that without a significant timeskip, (a few years), it MIGHT feel unearned for the protagonist to be able to compete the incredibly high level these people are already fighting at and improving in. And with the 3 year timeframe that is Korean high school, its going to be difficult but not impossible for the author to pull off.

Gonna stop there because its pretty obvious you have a really light grasp on whatever you're trying to say/talk about. At the end of the day is this a comic, not real life, so what matters is how the author overcomes these challenges in a way that makes it feel earned, palatable, and ultimately satisfying.

I was referring to the fact that you don't really have to be at this your entire life to compete with people who have been at it for years.

I thought you were one of those people who find Noob characters catching up with professionals to be a bit of an "asspull" moment. Kinda like how people hate prodigy characters that overcome obstacles thanks to being Talented. Which is why I brought up a fighter who started well past his teenage years(which is considered late) and also has a kick ass trainer.
