I'd say it's more that the school expelled her, and then she just dropped out of getting a high school education. Which in Japan isn't required.

Seems like a bit of both. It's probably more accurate to say she had dropped out because she mostly stopped going. However the school probably had to announce something. I'm not sure if it's a translation thing or if it's a definition for them on when someone has dropped out that the school then states that the person is no longer a student (not exactly expelled but a close translation). We'd need to know the original japanese and various people to argue what was said and I'm not able to do either of those.

Good point, those look more like saury, and the raws call them "さんま", which is Pacific saury, not mackerel.

It's taken twelve and a half years but the magical slice-of-life manga which has apple farming as a major backdrop finally gets to apple harvesting season.

I'm expecting a cider-making chapter soon. The fun kind of cider, the sort of cider that Akane and Inukai probably enjoy. Alcoholic cider still seems to be a novelty in Japan with a tiny market share but one of the biggest emerging brands seems to be Tekikaka Cidre which is brewed in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, which is, of course, the exact same city where Flying Witch is set.

EDIT: According to this article about hard apple ciders brewed in Aomori Prefecture, another Hirosaki-based hard cider brand is Hirosaki Castle Cidre. I'd love to try these.

I’m a fan of this series and buy the volumes as they get English releases but what happened to the art style in chapter 84? It feels like it changed a lot sort of like sketches instead of what it used to be. It may have happened earlier but im just now noticing it.

I don't know if it was mentioned already but the recent anime Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san feels like it's connected to this series. We got a Kei as the main character (his character is absolutely very Kei-like) and he's from Aomori too and he can travel between worlds involuntarily. Plus the ED song reminds me of the OST of Flying Witch haha
