For some reason it gives me Hateful Eight vibes, but thats only a hand full of chapters in.
Does suffer from the typical wuxia over-reliance on unnecessarily long nonsense like "Celestial dragon sect", but I'd say overall it's pretty promising.
Dude doing the translation is doing a hella fine job and i feel like he has mastery over both languages or atleast English is his primary

@YerRob its not a wuxia thing its just how how the Chinese language works. The chinese words that consist of 'Celestrial Dragon Sect' in Chinese is just one syllable each (as are all Chinese words) so in Chinese its something like 'Tian Long Pai' or something, which is a pretty simple and basic name. Its like kind of like how 'Knights Templar' name gets used a lot in historical fantasy dealing with the Church or medieval europe.

I somewhat like the art because it seems realistic for some characters, but at the same time, why is the skin of the mc and the girls so unnaturally white? I know Chinese is not white so wt is author saying here. Seems like your typical white obsessed colorist Chinese comic. I'll pass

to be fair, people living up north tend to cover up when they go outside. So it's natural for them to have lighter skin tones becuase they obviously don't get as much sunlight with all that smog in the summer and similiar conditions to Siberia in winter. And according to the classic novel this is based on the story is supposedly based in Central/Northern China.

I live in Southern China and I'm pretty sure you point at random and find people who are either as pale as the character skintones (Usually introverts or play solo sports) or someone who looks like they work at the beach all year round (usually play a team sport and are probably on their school roster).

But damn, the inconsistency in this comic is kinda annoying

changbai mountain is a snowy mountain in far northeast , so white a the theme of color.

All adaptations of Flying Fox combine the stories from both the original novel and the prequel (which makes sense, since the prequel is longer and actually focuses on Hu Fei). I guess this adaptation is the same.
Not gonna lie, I'm still kinda frustrated about the ending.

Trivial note: the time setting here is the latest among all Jin Yong novels (late 18 century); more than 100 years after Wei Xiaobao's era.

The rating seems pretty low but it looks like it might be a fun and relatively normal adventure. I want to enjoy a chinese story, so I'll try this. So far I haven't been impressed with chinese stories, they're either silly cultivator nonsense or a wild hodgepodge of a thousand tropes and borrowed ideas mixed together.

True, most are pretty bad. These are good: Blood and Steel, Blade of the Guardian, Song of the Sky Walkers, Heresy.

You can find all 4 in this website.

@ashardalon Hi there, can you help me confirm if the following entries are different, separate productions: 1, 2, 3, 4? I can hardly believe they are shooting 4 different adaptations of this storyline at the same time.

Hmm. Based on the website, they are supposed to be separate productions, although [3] and [4] could be the same thing. This is assuming that the website info is accurate, which may not be, since anyone seems to be able to edit the website. There's no source listed in the website as well. Personally, I'd want a more credible reference. Anyway...

Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain. The images show that it's affiliated with iQIYI (爱奇艺), an online video platform. It's listed as an upcoming movie (电影) with an existing trailer at iQIYI website.

Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain. The only image there shows that it's affiliated with iQIYI and Huace Group. The listed director is different from that of [1]. A Baidu Baike article says that it's going to be a TV series (电视剧).

[3] https://movie.douban.com/subject/27121221/
The prequel, The Young Flying Fox. The director is listed as Lian Yiming, but the summary mentions Zhang Jizhong talking about how he originally wanted to flim Fox Volant, but he had to settle for the prequel because the right to do so was already taken by someone else. Why does it mention Zhang Jizhong if the director is Lian Yiming? This part is rather confusing.

The prequel, The Young Flying Fox. The director is listed as Zhang Jizhong (张纪中), who is known for producing quite a few Jin Yong's stories. It doesn't even have a promotional poster/cover.

@ashardalon Thanks a lot. I couldn't even tell whether they were movies or TV series. Jin Yong's most popular works are adapted for TV every 6-7 years, but the last movie was made in the 90's. So I'm kinda surprised to learn there are 4 movies coming this year . Can't wait to see how they butcher adapt the stories for the big screen.
