You know, the first thing I thought about by the end of the chapter was not about how horrific the situation is, but what the daughter would do if she had to act out an affair where one of the parents started cheating on the other and she had to act out the process of her family being broken up.

Best guess, the dog was clearly fake, automated to step in and out of the doghouse. Which implied the entire happy family thing was a facade, and that the girl was actively perpetuating it, not just being fooled by something or that her family had really come back.

Maintaining the illusion was more important to her than actually having a family at that point, as evidenced by how she spoke normally while not wearing any of the skinsuits, and chiding Fran for revealing the secret.

It's kinda an extension or a new twist from that story from Junji Ito with a woman who could remove her skin.

Also, I half thought she was also playing the part of the dog, until I saw that it didn't make any sense.

I get the pretending part but how does a fake dog that pops in and out of the doghouse improve anything
Also she didnt speak "normally" outside the suit? She was going back and forth pretending to be everyone and didnt say a word to fran before slipping back into hers
