@jonathaneze I know this is a few months late, but here ya go:
¥8,000 JPY is about ~$75 USD. Assuming an 8 hour work day that should be ~$9.36 USD per hour.
Based on figures from around 2016 (Thanks be to Google-Sensei):
Average Minimum wage in Japan: ¥873 JPY > $8.21 USD
Average Minimum wage in the US: $8.72 USD > ¥926.90 JPY
Average Hourly wage in Japan: ¥1972.44 JPY > $18.56 USD
Average Hourly wage in the US: $25.33 USD > ¥2692.46 JPY
Based on these statistics I believe it is safe to conclude that, if we based it off of the average wage, his wage would most likely be considered "slightly below average" to "far below average" depending on where he lives. If we based it off of the minimum wage rather than the average wage, then his wage would most likely be considered "slightly above average" depending on where he lives.
So yea, there you go. Imma go reflect on how much of a nerd I am considering I just spent a good 30 minutes researching and crunching numbers just to provide an answer to a random internet stranger from 3 months ago. I really do need to get a life one of these days. XD
Most math-ing done by me.
