Depend on context.
If you meant a 8 years old student in a school environment against strict teachers, then you are correct.
If you meant a 8 years old who given a gun with unlimited ammo and been told that he can shoot at anyone and anything other people and him don't like and that's okay with everyone, then you are wrong.

I am thinking that maybe they are doing the stupid option of not providing support to them so the secrets of this experimental unit do not leak in the slightest, as till now even their weaponry was a complete mystery.

If not it was just a set up in the videogame to make the bosses look more awesome.
