Of all the old manga tropes to have mostly died out, I'm glad it's this one.
It's so damn annoying that every time there's some sort of possible romantic development they would pull this same annoying, already wildly over done (in just this series alone), cliche. It also comes across as wildly immature, despite almost always being used in more mature series such as this.
