That's the big question, isn't it? Nobody in the cast seems to have any memory of the events in the picture, except maybe Ashura. There's been other hints of missing memories, it's pretty clearly one of the major mysteries of the storyline.

My personal guess (I don't read ahead, I know as much as you do) is that Ashura got them all involved in her own Fudajo tournament, and then some tragedy struck that wiped all their memories. This would explain, for instance, why Asahi has dreams of Ashura crying and apologizing and why Ashura says things like "I'd do anything for your sake" to Machida. Only time will tell, though.
