Sex before marriage is huge huge deal, especially of rich family with reputation. at more older time, sex before marrige or cheating it is treat as shameful crime, face with really extreem punishment: drowning them or burn, while they are alive.

I feel like "oh yeah i wanna marry my daughter" isn't something that just gets dropped on you without any foreshadowing for that being the case. Assuming what you said is true and they did have sex before marriage, it would imply by wanting to marry his daughter, he also intends to essentially defile her in the face of who he considered his "true love"...? idk fam doesnt add up.
