I’m not a part of Golden Orchid but I’m glad you’re enjoying this seriesThat's how marriage to abusive men, regardless of race but especially in China where men are only in favor handling business and politics it's rare for Chinese fathers who has equal treatment to their children regardless of gender and also loves them equally. Yan Chu is so lucky she had a dad with a kind heart and loves her unconditionally that's why she grew up like with a strong personality as him. Thanks for this chapter, Golden Orchid team!
I somehow think that if an author is writing about mob boss lesbians in the 1910s expressing their thoughts on marriage, their point might not be "oh wow marriage was so bad back then lol. glad its great now 🥰". but everyone has the right to their own reading I guess.Life was super rough back then. Nice that most marriages these days are much nicer and beneficial to both parties. And if not, they can divorce without too much cultural pressure.
Also, can you two just kiss already?????
Statement had nothing to do with what the author is trying to portray. Just a general statement about how things used to be back then compared to how they are now.omg I forgot about them, I love it when these two get screentime.

(to be fair, there are stories like that. but in this one, every female character either came into their wealth via automatic familial inheritance and found barriers to actually using it credibly, or had no family and therefore grew up homeless relying on male benefactors. that could be accidental, but all I can do here is to at least extend trust to the author that they're approaching this with some sincerity, and take what they've tried to express in their work seriously.)
