Spends a lot of time saying she won't be able to help as much if he gets involved when both of them know he will anyway.

If that's the story, just give her a poison antidote. Minimum interference, saves her. Well, unless other things go wrong.

Well, maybe not have her drink it without telling her because the effect duration of the antidote might be short.
Instead ask Airis which poison will kill Bal and then tell Bal that the guys he caught also mentioned that Cain uses said poison.
Then Bal would prepare the antidote herself and either drink it before entering Cain's hideout or have it ready to drink when she receives a hit.

Yeah, it's very sketchy about what counts as "interference". She implied just telling him about it could change things, but apparently not. But does he have to actually start doing something, or does just intending count? And to what degree? This is often the problem with fate stuff. It's fuzzy and allows the author to get away with stuff, and as a consequence doesn't feel too good for the readers.

Thank you for the chapter! Like the others mentioned, my first thought was "you don't stand a chance against him in battle, but Airis said the girl dies from poison and you're literally an alchemist. Ask Airis what kind of poison and how to make an antidote, give it to Bal, and tell her to take it after the fight or something. You can even just lie and say it's a health potion." I was not expecting him to try to join the fight head-on.

I legit thought she was a small giant or something this whole time as her shear size and stockiness gave me the "this isnt a normal human" impression.

Like in the backstory she looked like a normal tough woman but now she's literally HUGE (the first time we see her she is literally bending over the fit though the guilds door meaning she's at least 7 ft tall)
