If it's so stressful to do fire and ice magic at the same time, why not just... throw the ice boulder on top of the golems, and then melt it with fire? You don't have to do both at the same time, unless for "magic reasons" the ice would've disappeared afterwards if he tried that (despite the magic-created water not disappearing).
