@kanade_alter the king needs a male heir. Even the most useless male son is still a male son. So he keeps him as a Reserve until he gets a "proper" heir, just in case he only gets daughters from the MCs birth on.
And they kill him bcs as the first born he would be able to dispute his younger brothers claim.

seeing as she is on the cover - in full detailed color - with the former lord of the forests child (who has grown some and is in very fancy and nearly regal looking gear) with the MC who aged a bit and has his own nice looking weapon/gear and she is there as well (again in full color) we will see her again; id be very surprised if she doesn't play a major role in the rest of the series or at least for points of it.

@kanade_alter because alchemy is considered the weakest skill, and king dont want a child with weak skill... he probably already killed more than one child because of that.
i just dont get why waiting.. maybe until all peaople forgot about him, or he get another child with different women (who knows how many concubines he have)

My guess is that they were waiting until the king had another child, and that child proved up to be capable of having attack magic of sufficient power. He was being kept in reserve in case they had a streak of bad luck with children.
