I think such an extreme interpretation of Raoul's words is not necessary in this case. What he did was hang a more immediate sword of Damocles over their heads than the Judeo-Christian one. If they live fair and honest lives in which they don't cheat and abuse each other they should be fine. It's not that hard if you have a basic moral compass and some self-control, lol.
