It's not that she can't use them, it just takes her a insanely long time to use anything but fire magic.
Though she does gain a artifact in the future to nullify that problem, for earth magic at least.

The manga is trash but the LN is great. So this manga is good since it introduced me to the LN

She really reminds me of Megumin in some ways and in general I see some similarities to Konosuba. For one she kept getting kicked out of parties for being annoying before she met the MC. The MC tried to refuse her multiple time from joining the party in both. She can only do fire magic just like Megumin can only do explosion magic. They both have no control and it’s overkill mostly. On the other hand him and Kazuma both have weak statuses but make up for it by being resourceful and having good control.

So just to confirm. This guy has the magical aptitude of a gifted rock, with random bums off the street having more magical firepower.

But this guy shows up everyone throughout the entire novel series because he tries hard?

Like I understand the message they're trying to send, that hard work can trump talent. But fucking come on, there are limitations. Like someone with down syndrome might be able to complete an iron man competition with inhuman effort and hard work. But he's never going to be winning any medals, you know?

@XxCaptainJack massive spoiler on spirit magic
Spirit magic is OP but hard to control, making it a taboo against the gods. Plus the spirits can be capricious. You have to have a beyond the impossible level proficiency to use it. Know any characters engaged in a taboo against the gods that are working on proficiency?

No, he's creative. His application of magic is unique, and he's a good problem solver.
Because his water magic doesn't do damage, he aims for the eye instead.
He created fast transportation magic by chantlessly casting waterwalking and flow so he can move around quite fast if there are rivers nearby.

He makes use of basic skills like stealth, and manipulates the blood of his targets in order to maximize damage and keep control over battles.

He also tries hard.

I'll probably drop this here. It's simply very light on details or explanations.

Still never explained why MC has stealth skill? It wasn't listed at first but then he somehow had it, Chpt 1 pg 24. 'Newly acquired sneak and search skills' which obviously gets changed to stealth from sneak.

Actual status he has is never really shown, just recently mentioned magic proficiency and magic power (mana).

As I stated before, leveling up apparently doesn't increase his mana?

I'll still hold out hope this becomes smut based (not going to happen) where sex will let him acquire skills. Lucy has all the potential but she doesn't try to improve her usage of her skills. She simply says 'I've never used anything but fire', why not? Who cares before start trying now!

So obviously, transferring or sharing Lucy's skills with MC would greatly improve his abilities.

@BuffSoul I figured the lack of a real reason not to use other elements was to signify that the next few chapters he will make her train them. Basically 'I have only ever used fire element [implying common sense is to specialize in one even when you can use more - at least initially]' -> 'Well learn to conjure water at least, that way I am not locked to fighting near rivers or in mist, as you can provide me with a battleground when needed', is how I expect it to go based on the way things were phrased this chapter.
And I am sure he will have her train some in spirit and other elements too, since spirit magic is heavy foreshadowing for that last dungeon, and air/earth has various utility usages even if you have no real control (earth: tunnel you way out or prepare battlefield or block tunnels; air: heavy knockback/turbulence against flying enemies and maybe air cushions against fall damage)

That's not really a proper analogy, is it? Mana quantity and power doesn't become less wieldy the more of it thoug have. It's just a resource that gains more applications as the amount increases.

The MC is more like someone with the lung capacity and athleticism of a chain smoker in their 80s doing competitive orienteering.

He can't run as fast or as far as his counterparts, the most he can do is figure out clever shortcuts to get from one control point to another and discovering the shortest path possible.

But let's be honest here. They might beat most times in a noncompetitive game open to the public if they're really good. But they simply don't have the physical wherewithal to be world class. The only way this MC could show up everybody in the entire world given his enormous handicaps is if everyone was borderline retarded about figuring out how to use their power.

Like MC is the only guy who tries hard and knows how to use his brain in this world? Come on. And that's only talking about his mana limitations, the guy is stunted in nearly every attribute.

In a well fleshed out world, the MC shouldn't have a monopoly on creativity.

Why is Lucy wearing so much?
Not that I don't prefer it this way but it seems like the artist's definition of scantily clad is wearing a full dress and also a cape

Read the novel. Seriously you won't regret it. The novel is excellent. The manga is probably better for those that already know the details already. But there is a practical limit on shoving details into a manga versus a novel.

Those special skills given to the otherworlders are one thing, but there are normal skills one can acquire as well. But yes that falls under things not explained in the manga. Regarding his skills - his Clear Mind skill is rare though not unheard of. It is offers powerful protection against mental attacks along side the ability to remain calm, but there are other lessor skills in the same category that can be learned too. Now is RPG Player skill is pretty special, but certain uses of it aren't apparent yet. Except...
The fact that he can look at a Goddess directly without them obscuring their image, and retain his sanity. Also she did attemp to use Charm while being a top beauty goddess, and he's totally immune. There isn't a single other human that can claim the same. That being said, his goddess is pretty careless to have simply appeared before him like that.
I spoiler tagged that because while it already happened, the MC doesn't yet understand what has transpired so it would still be unknown knowledge at this point in the story.

edit to not double post:

Her problem is more than having a lot of mana -
A certain being they encounter later describes her mana being "like a storm" and thus extraordinarily difficult to control.
And that is because -
Her father is a powerful fire demon. Note the anyone being partially demon is greatly discriminated against in their world, due to their history of being subjugated cruelly before the hero of 1000 years ago freeing them. The oppressed becoming the oppressors and all that. Thus she isn't in a hurry to reveal this to anyone. Note that her mother is a crazy powerful woman as well, but we won't meet her for a long time.

I went and read the web novel after this.
It made some things a bit more ... clear to me.
Especially related to the "clear mind" skill.
From reading this manga, I was certain it was a kind of skill that was slowly decreasing from 99% to 0%. But
He himself is the one setting it to 99%, 80%, 50%, 0%, etc. It doesn't decrease on its own. He can keep it up indefinitely. I feel like the manga didn't do a great job at explaining how his basic skills worked, they just "showed" it without the part of him doing the action itself like how it is shown in the web novel or in chapter 9 where he thinks "I set [Clear Mind] at 80%."
As such, it is a lot more OP than I initially thought.

So if you're a demon with obscene amounts of mana it becomes hard to control. Did she try increasing her magical proficiency like the MC so she could better wield it?

Or did she just let her greatest strength have a crippling downside because she's not willing to put in the effort like MC. And the MC is just lucky he is one of the least magically gifted people in the world?

She needs an uncle Iroh to whip her into shape. Though MC seems pretty competent. She'll probably be on Megumin's level before long

I don't want to spoil anything but I will spoil a little bit.
So the reason his magic proficiency is so high and it keeps going up is actually because his overall magic power is low.
The reason it takes so long for the elf girl to level up her magic proficiency is because her magic power is insanely high, so there's actually a benefit to having low magic power.

The protagonist uses his education and understanding of physics from the future to properly utilize his magic really well.

His dagger is also broken tier.

He is absolutely not the strongest person in that world. High ranking adventurers can kick his ass at this point in time, and he can't compete with his classmates at this moment in time.
