I'm sure there's some glossing over Isabella Bird's racism, but I'm glad there are still little hints of it here and there (and in the excerpts the scanlator clips for us — thank you scanlator!) because it would be disingenuous to cut it out entirely. Isabella is very obviously taken with the culture she's exploring, and her prejudices are sometimes confronted by Ito, but they definitely still shine through here and there, and that's an important part of history as well
