@kuma As the minister's wife, Fanny, is required to take on specific duties, such as award medals at sporting events that don't interest her and make small talk with people she doesn't like and who only flatter her due to her husband's administrative power. She expresses jealousy of both the literal bird and Miss. Bird who may fly to wherever they please and aren't tied down by odious tasks required of them by their social stations.
