Yeah, because ID is mostly honorific-neutral language except if you considered traditional and local dialect. It's not even 1-on-1 comparasion really.

There are a lot of English TL that keeps JP honorifics, nothing to do with Indonesian. But if you think that's dumb, whatever.

I still see fantasy works, not set in Japan, yet they have Japanese honorifics, huh, weird, rule for thee not for me.

That's sophistry you're using to avoid the point. When you dropped the honorifics, you stopped translating and started localizing. Japan is not America or Canada or Britain. It has its own culture that you are sandpapering because of a personal conceit about translation. There is little to no extra work involved with too much nuance lost.

It's your group, it's obvious you can do as you like. However, you weren't even being criticized directly about it, all MeganeR said was that he preferred the translation that didn't drop the honorifics. You're the one who started picking a fight with an inane non sequitr excuse.

Not going to try and force you to change your style, you're doing a great job as a translator overall and I really want you to keep going.

That said I do like it when honorifics are kept, because they're such an integral part of Japanese culture, which ones are used and especially if they stop using them has a huge effect on the tone. I have also seen and heard Japanese speakers using them when speaking English.

To me it's a specific cultural thing that gets lost if they're dropped in a translation, even if they're not really part of "English". Similarly I much prefer keeping terms like onii-/onee-san/chan/tan/sama, ani-/ane-ki/ue, because English doesn't have a good equivalent for them, and nothing sounds more silly in English than constantly calling your big brother "big brother".
