The back-half of the Gen/Kana breakup gives a lot of context. Neither of them was willing to change themselves to fit the other.

And Gen has a dream of owning a campsite? That's not solo camping, that's a ton of administration and chasing out rude drunks! Still better than office work.

So she was a bitch… which we already knew, and we got the second fucking monologue of her pent-up grievances. Two chapters in a row, ugh. Please get on that plane and don’t come back.

He’s got his own dream now, to embrace Shizuku down by a campfire all night long. Happy now?

want the guy to be interested in your interest
acknowledges that she never wanted to stay in Japan; so leads a guy on for no reason but to satiate her ego
self inflicted butthurt
meanwhile
ENTER GIGACHAD GENCHAD
RESPECTING his father's memory
realistic and admirable dream; knows ancient evil lurks where art intersects money
literally surrounded by bros and hotter women who think he's mysterious and cool-headed
doesn't care; just wants to CAMP

Wow, you people are blaming her? To me it's 100% Gen's fault. She finally got a lead role and saved up a seat for you, her boyfriend to come and you fucking went CAMPING? You're not fucking Spider-Man stopping crime in New York that you couldn't make the time, you have nothing going on, and you fucking go camping? Clearly you don't give a single shit about her beyond sex considering the distance you maintain, so you shouldn't be together anyways.

How to not understand a chapter lesson 1

In his shoes I would have gone to the recital? Yes, but at the same time, she openly said that she started the relationship being ok with the initial distance and in time she tried to "lure him" into her world while knowing that he wasn't interested.

So, she's the one that got "greedy" and broke the initial situation...and she says it too.
So it's not 100% on Gen

She was going to dump him anyway with her plan to leave Japan which she never even mentioned before she dumped him. Even when they were “happy” she had one foot out the door and he had no idea. She was just hoping to dump him on a high instead of a low, she even said that herself. He didn’t see this coming at all.

Instead of a discussion about how he let her down, she used it as an excuse to scream from her high horse about how he, and his entire way of living, is utter dogshit compared to her. It’s all the more painful for him because those were his exact insecurities and the person he was closest to in the world was the one putting salt in the wounds and then leaving him alone.

So yes, I BLAME HER.

Not 100% on Gen sure, but definitely 90%. She tried to show interest in his hobbies and he pushed her away, she tried to share her hobbies with her and he pushed her away, and then he couldn't be there on a very important day for her, just for a few hours and he wasn't there for nothing, just didn't want to be there. What an asshole. I understand being insecure enough, it has happened to me, but when something this important was happening, either be there, or if you hate her enough to not do so, break up with her earlier instead of dragging this shit out.

She was 100% correct on her high horse. As I said above, she showed interest in his hobbies and tried to share her interests in his hobbies, he clearly was too insecure about it, that's not her fault. If he couldn't be there on a very important day for her, he clearly should've broken up with her ages ago. It doesn't matter if they tried to keep distance, even if she wasn't a girlfriend but just a friend, once she asked you personally to be there on an important day, it was his job to suck up his insecurities for a few hours, instead he went fucking camping. Complete loser behaviour.

God, yeah. Gen was being an ass there. Even when she confronts him about him not showing up, he doesn't seem emotionally invested, just inconvenienced that she confronted him at all. There is definitely an element of not trusting her in his life. I don't quite feel like she needs to apologize for anything, she asked him to be there, he said yes, he didn't show. He even acknowledges that HE put up the barriers. Just a lot of oof.

Can you please f*ck off, judging people by comments on a manga chapter? Seriously, calm down

Also: if he was the person that just liked to be alone, and she already had plans to leave Japan...why being in a relationship? She should've just left him alone and stayed single (or found another person more inclined to follow her)

She is the one that started it, she is the one that tried to change the status quo, and she is the one that got angry and in the end ended things leaving as she already planned. She could've lived her life without him and nothing would have changed...but he's the jerk 🤣 get a grip

I'll fuck off to nowhere. She DID leave him alone to wallow in his misery like he prefers, she is following her dreams while he has achieved nothing. Why did HE get into the relationship if he couldn't be bothered to show any interest? Even a distant relationship needs the couple to show SOME interest in each other, even friends would do that, let alone BF/GF. She didn't ask him to change the fucking status quo, she asked him to show up ONCE on a day that was important to her. I will judge whoever the fuck I want.

Honestly enjoying this arc. We get to see the situation from both their points of view, see how they've changed in the time they've been apart. Both of them have regrets, both wish they'd done things differently. They're starting to see that their relationship wasn't healthy for either of them in the long run. That's growth. And I'm here for it.
