She was 100% correct on her high horse. As I said above, she showed interest in his hobbies and tried to share her interests in his hobbies, he clearly was too insecure about it, that's not her fault. If he couldn't be there on a very important day for her, he clearly should've broken up with her ages ago. It doesn't matter if they tried to keep distance, even if she wasn't a girlfriend but just a friend, once she asked you personally to be there on an important day, it was his job to suck up his insecurities for a few hours, instead he went fucking camping. Complete loser behaviour and everyone who is defending him is an even bigger loser.

Name calling just because someone disagrees with you, really?!? Did this touch a nerve because your dad didn’t go to your school play either? I think you’re too invested in this fiction.

They're both have their wrongs, who were more wrong is arguable but thats youth for you. Younger people have strong personalities but usually have trouble with working and communicating to each other to meet halfway. It's a time where you experience lots of things both great and terrible, that will grow your emotional intelligence so you become a rounded adult.

It's shame things ended the way it was. But that was the beauty of fleeting youth. These things have happened countless times throughout all of history. You gotta remember your story is not unique, it's not the end of the world. That it's normal to feel that way and it's what normal people go through in their life at some point. You have to talk it out with people to put everything into perspective and accept the way it was.

Just keep moving on son you'll get somewhere someday.

I'd lean towards being on Kana's side, really. Never really got how comments in the previous chapter were aggressively against her existence, and with extra context, all her actions are entirely understandable.

Honestly, I hope they patch up their relationship and then Kana can move on with the rest of her life. Gen was insufferable back then. Truly a YTA moment kekek.

If calling someone a loser hurts them that much then they have bigger problems. My friends and family actually do care for me though, so I've never had them skip out on anything I wanted them to attend.

But you know what, maybe that was going too far, I'll be the bigger person and edit that out. Gen himself is still a massive loser though.

I'm with kana on this one. Gen chose his solo camping (he could literally do this whenever he wanted) when she needed his support the most and that seemed to really cement the idea of leaving Japan. Like its fine to not be interested in your partner's hobby/dream but at least be supportive.

This was an interesting chapter that, while providing context, doesn't excuse her behavior that irked me in the last chapter. They both clearly failed their relationships in different ways, and this is a very much grey situation to me. Truth be told, they might be in better places due to their break-up. There is a potential that they kept it going, maybe he does feign enough interest to keep her in Japan, causing them more misery in the long run. He was sort of the last thing holding her back, by her own admission, where her parents didn't even support her career choice. For him, at least in this moment, he finally seems to have found something he dreams about. Hasn't come up before this but it is fairly clear their conversation/break-up is the catalyst for it.
Also, it is pretty clear MC doesn't blame her. He might be hurt but I think he knew she was hurting all the same. Appreciate all the TLs.

I‘ve never been in a romantic relationship but I think they were doomed from the start. Maybe I’m romance delulu land but like a partner you can’t talk about your dreams and hearing their dreams makes you feel miserable, probably shouldn’t be involved with them. Honestly, hearing that makes me feel like most romantic relationships wouldn’t work out for him either. On her side of things, if she wanted a change in the relationship they had she should conveyed it earlier and it a way he understood. Him not going to show and not telling her is fucking crazy, and I’m like 90% if you told a random person that story they’d say you don’t like that girl that much then. Her emotions were probably running high back then but she should have apologized way sooner than she did, no reason to hurt somebody after being hurt yourself. I mean all we hope is that Shizuka shares part of his dream or he’ll become better at expressing himself which currently he still sucks at doing otherwise that too will fall apart.

Turns out, relationships don't work when both sides refuse to be honest and vulnerable with each other.

Look carefully, there are no villains in this arc. Just two very young fools still trying to figure out life and love.

I think it's very interesting that both of them understand that they did something wrong, and understand their own wrongdoing at their own way

Gen is too stubborn, and also too afraid to move out of his shell, alongside taking Kana for granted, even tho he knows that she wishes to push both of their interest to each other

While for Kana, she is trying to build a bridge after telling the contractor that she ain't going to spend any cent towards the construction, setting up false pretense, not to mention knowing that she'll be gone from Japan + trying to start in clean slate in the US

It's very nice they both can go "yeah, I'm a fucking ass back then, but it's hard to word it out to the other person now that it's all over"

Kana started their relationship with the plan to dump him when it suited her to leave Japan. Even if Gen was amazing and supportive she would have still dumped him and left, it would have just hurt her more. Gen wasn’t a good boyfriend and she knew that when they got together and it was an intentional choice so that she wouldn’t feel guilty about dipping out later.

What she didn’t plan on was actually getting attached to him like she did, so when he disappointed her (again, completely in line with her initial expectations) she kind of exploded. But she was the one who changed their expectations unilaterally. If that’s what she wanted from a boyfriend from the beginning she would never have continued dating Gen once she figured out his nature.

He wasn’t a good boyfriend, but he is a good man, and he didn’t deserve to be verbally eviscerated like that. Kana doesn’t know, since Gen never told her, that Gen camps like that alone to feel like he’s spending time with his dead dad. He’s an incredibly lonely person, and unfortunately he’s got too many walls up to share his feelings properly.

Only a girl like Shizuku could wiggle her way in and that’s why she’s the best girl.

Wow, you people are blaming her? To me it's 100% Gen's fault. She finally got a lead role and saved up a seat for you, her boyfriend to come and you fucking went CAMPING? You're not fucking Spider-Man stopping crime in New York that you couldn't make the time, you have nothing going on, and you fucking go camping? Clearly you don't give a single shit about her beyond sex considering the distance you maintain, so you shouldn't be together anyways.
They both was never going to work out in a take and take relationship. You can't have a relationship with out the give and take part.

True, but Gen's behaviour was abhorrent here, they could've parted on good or at least better terms of he wasn't a jackass.
So if he went out of his comfort zone and had gone to the show, and then after pushing himself to do that he still got dumped, that’s better?

He’d probably move to the woods permanently if that had happened.

Perfect response to the commenter and in regards to this chapter.
"But that is completely hindsight and Gen is a loser because he did something I didn‘t like but is very understandable even if morally questionable and disrespectful since he was young and in a failing relationship!!“

This whole chapter is about hindsight. Both acknowledge that they did wrong and were miserable back then and (tried) growing from it (I would even argue she kinda didn‘t because of what she said the prior chapters).
Dunno how one can unironically keep pumping "GEN IS A LOSER REEE IT IS 100% HIS FAULT, WELL, MAYBE 90%!!!“ without laughing maniacally and a ragebaiter grin on their face lmao

btw I am also of the opinion that Gen fucked up big time (it was explained tho) but she forfeited any moral high ground the moment she went berserk on him, trying to obliterate him in an (imo) even worse way.

honestly they both shouldn't have gotten into a relationship if they weren't going to have the same perception of where their relationship was going, they were too immature and immersed in their own thoughts and weren't willing to invest in their relationship, weren't able to communicate what they wanted clearly (it's difficult I know, been there) and ended up hurting each other.
