I can't relate to the premise of this manga. He's disrespected because he's flabby. (And because he's a minor pushover). But somehow, an insane woman takes an interest in him? And implies that if he gets fit, respect will follow?

It doesn't make sense. Self-respect comes from within, whatever your body looks like. And if others judge you because of your body, then they're jerks. Some superficial appeasement (at the sacrifice of one of life's basic pleasures, SALT) does not transorm your life or make people stop being jerks.

Maybe the long-term arc is that he stops being a pushover by sending this insane person to jail, where she belongs.

I dunno, this manga has too much comedy to take it seriously for me. It doesn't look like it's gonna be the alpha male's wet dream of a manga I suspected, it's just very dumb and she is even dumber.

You think so? I don't think comedy and deeper meaning are mutually exclusive. Deeper meaning can come from anything; Masterpieces, or slop, or soulless AI writing, or random coincidence. Finding meaning in stories is as basic a part of human behavior as is hunger or seeking community. We need to find meaning in things so badly, we make stuff up to ascribe it meaning.

And saying I should let the premise lie because it's meant to be funny assumes I would find it funny. Even the most absurd comedy needs something relatable as a hook. My first impression here is that I don't empathize with any of these characters, or relate to the whys and hows of the plot. Allow for subjective tastes, too. I'm sure some people out there find this funny, or believe that working out transfers respect. I was careful to make my statement with subjective language- "I can't relate to the premise." Others are free to feel differently. No skin off my back.

I think it’s a littte simpler than that, he is basically a cliche of the middle aged working man, working hard for to provide for a family that hates him, a marriage that got cold longs ago, a teenage daughter disconnected from him cuz she spends more times with her mom, a degraded body from aging and unhealthy habits etc… Then a crazy woman comes in a break the dynamic, for he own benefit
And while I agree with you that self confidence comes from within, regardless of the appearance, sometimes physical appearance improvement can help with self respect, being ripped will obviously boost one’s ego and will change how others perceive you, so in the end mc could have some improvement thanks to her
