Not gonna lie, you would think Guardsman would have higher visibility within their communities, especially amongst law enforcement.

It's like cops and firefighters, sure they may not know each other on a personal level, but they should definitely be aware of each other. Even more so when they live in such small communities.

So this just ends up feeling like drama for dramas sake.

Kikuru is an odd one; Hanabata is basically all his if only he'd ask her. But I suppose he now has a persistent trust issue thanks to the guild lady (Enome)...
Heck, if we're talking about social status and outlook, Mishelly and Kikuru would click very well. As in they are both currently Zero Achievements, Zero Relationships, Zero presence, and Zero popularity - except Mishelly is only so because she wears a mask. IIRC Mishelly isn't an "ace" but that's because she's a solo guard in the middle of nowhere (chapter 21). But given how serious she takes her work, I'd imagine she actually isn't that incompetent as a guard. Mishelly kind of reminds me of Yunyun from konosuba, except she is a fighter/tank/warrior instead of a wizard.
Mishelly probably up there in terms of physical attraction (chapter 41), but yeah, she doesn't get enough screen time to even get into the competition... unless Kikuru seeks her out himself.
