I soo disagree, the comedy here is less good and it seems that there will be no progress for the main character unless you consider spiraling down into being a neet progress. Watamote is dragged out a ton because it works. I dont actually think this compares to watamote at all but since you mentioned it I wanted to share my opinion, I hope you dont mind.Dollar store Tomoko.
However, unlike watamote, this manga doesn't slowly become a boring highschool drama/comedy with a bunch of nothing characters and uninteresting plot lines, so its still better in my book.
It's fine, I just prefer manga that stick to their gimmick. The reason why I bring up watamote is that the designs of the main characters look kinda similar with similar a premise for the story (gloomy looking kid with no friends dicking around in her free time). This manga does have an actual ending already, and, I'm pretty sure it's gonna end with the main character going to school, which would make sense. Her making friends with another neet who is about to go back counts as progress towards that in my book. The jokes are fine, but don't compre to how funny early watamote was.I soo disagree, the comedy here is less good and it seems that there will be no progress for the main character unless you consider spiraling down into being a neet progress. I was being a bit hasty with what I said, I only read the first volume and judged that alone but when I read the second one I started liking it. I didnt expect such an incredible response, Im glad. I'll have to re-read watamote to make sure I love it as much I think I do.It's fine, I just prefer manga that stick to their gimmick. Watamote on the otherhand sets up its main conflict and source of comedy (tomoko being really unpopular, angsty and cringy) and then resolves it with the class trip and her making friends, which is good. But then it just kinda keeps going. Fundamentally, it ignores the classic narrative arc that most stories take, which can be interesting, but it doesnt do anything interesting narratively to justify it continuing for any reason other than people just being attached to the characters (who I don't find interesting enough to read chapter after chapter of uninspired highschool slice of life content to see). In my opinion it would've been better if the manga just ended a volume or two after the school trip, since the whole 'since I'm not popular' naming scheme makes no sense when it's been like 10 volumes since she made a bunch of friends. There are plenty of manga that do the whole 'slice of life friend group' thing better than watamote. It's a manga that went from being one of a kind and niche to having broader appeal but losing a lot of what made it unique in the first place.
