in a lot of shounen manga the protagonist's relationship with the rival/best friend tends to feel even more romantic than with the canon love interest because of the emphasis the story gives to that friendship, turns out the same can happen in shoujo manga too when romance isn't the focus

I remember reading this and being baffled by how fucking gay the wonderful friendship of Mikan and Hotaru, but dropped this because they will never actually get together the story isn't really to my taste.

Omg thank you so much to whoever redid the last chapter!!! When i was younger i thought the ending to this story kindof left off as an open ending and up to the readers imagination, if they managed to find hotaru and subaru or not, but the fixed translation and panel with the photographs really cleared things up!
I'm so glad i reread this or not i wouldve went on with my life always thinking it wasnt a complete happy ending.
