him casually complimenting them both at once went a bit unexpectedly well. i somehow feel like i wouldn't appreciate such a compliment if i were on the receiving end myself. then again, maybe when it's for something you're just born with instead of something you actually put effort in, the feeling of it being a competition is reduced so it's easier to accept.

Diminishing population must be hitting really hard if it's like that in cities already. I've heard in the villages/small, remote towns you can buy whole houses for practically nothing.

It's not really that though, as Tokyo itself as grown, yet housing in Tokyo is extremely stable. Japan's housing market is extremely consumer friendly. Some of the laxest zoning laws in the developed world, the government builds a ton of housing so the private market has to compete against subsidized developments, and a population that doesn't see housing as a investment. Japan doesn't even bother making laws to ban foreigners to buy property because the market builds WAY, WAY more then your average Western country does.

There's a series by Where I Am From that has made several good videos about the subject.

can you give me an avg price on both jap and Canada?, I would like to compare it to india...I feel like india is a lot cheaper than both.
There’s no way the average sane person will choose to live in india even if it’s dirt cheap, because amenities are also dirt cheap and hygiene is nonexistent. Not to mention unsafe as hell for women

Vietnam, indonesia, malaysia or thailand might be better options for price saving

Doesn't Gen actually have quite a nice apartment by Japanese city standards? Some Japanese live in apartments with hardly more room than a train sleeper cabin.
Yeah, it is a good middle-class single's home.

He must earn well.
