Thank you for the TL!

And uhm, while I did find this chapter really funny anyone else think this is kinda an L from like a narrative perspective? Like I don't mind the fave thing though it is a little weird. But I don't think it should have happened this fast.

Idk that's just what I think though. Feel free to disagree.

I feel like with the popularization of vtubers and the huge overlap it has with the manga community, I think it’d be safe to use “oshi”. A majority would understand it and the rest will simply learn what it means like they do with words like “onee-san”.

I can't really fact check you on the "Oshi is becoming a more commonly known word as well", but I personally never really heard it anywhere else except the more recent Oshi no Ko manga/anime, but outside of that I haven't seen anyone ever mentioning the word oshi. I heard IDOL, but not OSHI.
I learned about "oshi" through "If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die" anime adaptation and discussion about its premise. At roughly same time I learned about "stans" as well.

I hope so. Because the things are great how they are now
On one of the recent chapters the 2 girls question her if she loves Otaku-kun and she says that she only likes him as a friend, and it's also mentioned that she loves someone else. We just don't know who. Only read the most recent free chapters tho, so the actual most recent chapter might reveal who.

Edit: Sorry if I seem passive aggressive, I was pretty annoyed while writing this comment.

I appreciate your work on the translation and personally have zero quibbles with what you've done, but this response is goofy AF. I don't know why y'all scanlators interact with negative comments when you should know that at least 95% of your work is solid.

I disagree with your translation of Oshi. So what? You don't need to defend it, you're doing good work. Rock on.

I mean, I'm a human too, that's all. :boomer: A lot of translators ignore the community while I actively engage with it. (unless its a solo translator who is new to the scene)

As for the translation, I translate korean, not japanese. xD I'm just the quality checker for this manga, but we were talking about it a lot with the actual translator on how to translate the wordplays in this and last chapter and decided on Fave, because it wasn't as simple as just writing Oshi instead of Fave.

I know its not perfect, but I think its miles better than simply assuming that the word 'OSHI' is a commonly known word.

Yeah, I'm not making a personal judgment against you and apologize if it came across that way. I should have phrased it differently as it's not how I would respond to these remarks. I won't waste more of your time with quibbling.

Thanks for your work regardless and I apologize for not being more careful with my phrasing.

I've been an anime fan since 1999. I've been following major anime (off and on) for many years, though I've had a number of popular series simply fall off my radar. One of them was "Oshi no Ko." And it was only through TL notes on an unrelated series that I learned exactly what "Oshi" means in this context. I consider myself a somewhat strong anime fan, but it's still a term I didn't easily internalize. Though it may not convey all the strings attached to exactly what "Oshi" means to a streamer fan, I consider "fave" to be a reasonable translation for people who aren't up to date on their Japanese lingo.

Having lived in Japan for a year (and subsequently forgetting a lot of Japanese I'd learned), I have an appreciation for quality translators who do their best to translate as much as they can from Japanese to English. And I know that there is a lot in Japanese speech patterns that is extremely hard to translate to English, such as many honorifics, polite speech, and the casual use of "onee/onii/ojii-san" for people who aren't blood or family related. There just aren't really good alternatives. But if there's a perfectly serviceable English word that can be used? I'm fine with that. I've been a One Piece fan for ages and watched Kaizoku Fansubs for years before it was officially licensed, but I don't strictly adhere to the belief that "nakama" is a special word that can't be translated as "comrade/crewmate/friend/family" and not still convey the original context.

I guess the ultimate tl;dr is that I'm happy with the translations and word choices that StoneScape is doing for this series. I might miss the honorifics... but I've also read another series where fans bemoaned the loss of honorifics, and having read the original Japanese, I knew that series wasn't using honorifics to begin with, so said fans really had no leg to stand on. I haven't read the original Japanese of this series, so I don't know what the state of honorific use is in this series.

Anyway, thanks for what you're doing @PreStoneX. This series has been a super fun, relaxing read, and I appreciate the work you're doing.

I tried my best to localize the word OSHI, and I know its not perfect, but its better than writing OSHI, assuming everyone knows what it means, and then adding a note for each wordplay they make to explain to readers what's happening.
As someone who is exactly what you had in mind. I would have been very confused and concerned on why they are calling him "ass" as that word sounds like a shortening ofお尻
I know I am not the brightest shed in the tool. :notlikethis:

So far no sign that Amane feels jealous of Otaku and Ijichi, but I guess we just have to wait.
Although...if the author isn't planning to give usan harem ending, then I hope she just stays as friend. No need for rejections in this manga.
