It really is ridiculous how many teachers in Japan have this attitude about makeup, when makeup for women is more important there than it is in other countries. Even more ridiculous is that many schools explicitly ban wearing makeup in their school rules.
It's likely all part of Japan's misogyny along with stuff like mandatory skirt lengths. There are still teachers who will get out a ruler and measure girl's skirts, although it's less common now than it was in the past. Some schools even have rules about what color panties girls can wear.
I love a lot of things about Japan, but it's a seriously fucked up country in how it treats women.
