It sounded to me like he volunteered to do it.i know right, it's so simple to stand up for yourself and get out of those situations, i don't understand why people can't do it, just say "no I can't, if it's urgent have someone else do it"
let it be the boss, i refuse to stay 1 minute over my time if the problem is not my fault, if you fire me i get a fat check and find a new job within 2 weeks, honestly considering his skills he could find within even less time than i would take.Other people also have lives... If it's something that needs to be done, SOMEBODY has to do the overtime.
I would get fired so quickly in Japan, because there's no way I'm staying late to do a last-minute request like that. My response to that would be: "sorry, my life takes priority"
This is only hearsay, but from what I've heard/read japanese companies don't fire people. Instead, they'll make you as uncomfortable as possible at work. Coworkers might even think less of you if leave on time even if you've done all your for the day. For some reason it's seen as being hard working if you stay behind longer. Don't even need to do any work. Twiddle your thumps until late at night and you'll be a hard working employee
That's just unrealistic. Especially in larger companies like this probably is, the boss should be in meetings coordinating between stakeholders and the developers. They might have the technological background to fix it over a few days but they aren't going to be familiar enough with the codebase to fix it on this kind of deadline.let it be the boss, i refuse to stay 1 minute over my time if the problem is not my fault, if you fire me i get a fat check and find a new job within 2 weeks, honestly considering his skills he could find within even less time than i would take.
My thoughts exactly. "A bug fix you say? I'll get to it first thing in the morning."I would get fired so quickly in Japan, because there's no way I'm staying late to do a last-minute request like that. My response to that would be: "sorry, my life takes priority"
Yup. Taking naps at your desk is also OK, as long as come in before the boss and leave after them. For some reason it's seen as being hard working if you stay behind longer. Don't even need to do any work. Twiddle your thumps until late at night and you'll be a hard working employee.
Remember this is Japan, changing jobs is difficult! No one wants to hire a quitter, and if you were fired there was certainly a reason for it.let it be the boss, i refuse to stay 1 minute over my time if the problem is not my fault, if you fire me i get a fat check and find a new job within 2 weeks, honestly considering his skills he could find within even less time than i would take.
Supposedly it's hard to actually fire someone in Japan. What would actually happen is that you would be transferred to the Hokkaido branch office.I would get fired so quickly in Japan, because there's no way I'm staying late to do a last-minute request like that. My response to that would be: "sorry, my life takes priority"
An American one.It sounded to me like he volunteered to do it.
Also, if I recall he's the boss of his department. What kind of boss knocks off to go bang his hot wife after foisting the problem off on his underlings? Not one anybody likes.
That puts him in the 95th percentile.Poor store clerk. He tried.
Next stop sugar induced heartburn.
Not in Japan. You're supposed to work at your first company forever. If you quit that means you're a defective worker. Since firing someone is difficult to do then if you are fired that means you obviously did something egregious (in the eyes of those looking to hire). You'll probably only find work at a Black Company. You'd be better off trying to become self employed.let it be the boss, i refuse to stay 1 minute over my time if the problem is not my fault, if you fire me i get a fat check and find a new job within 2 weeks, honestly considering his skills he could find within even less time than i would take.
Nah, it's not easy to get fired in JapanI would get fired so quickly in Japan, because there's no way I'm staying late to do a last-minute request like that. My response to that would be: "sorry, my life takes priority"
