I'll have to dig up the contract/licensing agreement later, but if it's the usual then the licensed version won't be sending any money to the author. The usual agreement is a lump sum at the start with no royalties, so it makes no difference if only one copy ever sells or a hundred billion. Every agreement I've dug up so far has read that way, so I always just buy the JP when I can and read them alongside the fan translations.
