If I'm not mistaken, he was trying to find a powerful tree that had a soul that hated the Undead King to make a magic staff.
He found it but because the tree's soul hated the Undead King so much that it started affecting Sasae and it "transport" him to there.

This is just an illusion from the tree so maybe notIs he actually gonna do it this time because it's not really Manako? He's cried wolf with rape scares so many times in this manga, but given that Sasae 2.0 got so angry he turned into a tree, he might.

It's the actual memories of the tree, aka fantasy-Sasae, so he's 100% "gonna do it" (or rather has already done it) else the tree wouldn't be as pissed off.

However, the rest was manipulation of the heroic tree's spirit, done so after having read Sasae's mind and figured out that this is what would sway him away from any would-be sympathy that could hinder him from killing the Dead Mell King.

If that's the case there was never a need for the roundabout switcheroo to begin with, assuming the "memories" are just reinforcements of preexisting perceptions. Though the last chapter that depicted him in the present, plus that fact that he's the undead king after all, makes me doubt that heavily.
I wouldn't really call this reveal surprising perse, but it still looks cheesy nonetheless.

MC father really a man-child. so petty af. bro did swindle and betray people for money and fun but when he get betray he can't accept it and throw a tantrum. he can't get sasae so he find replacement for he revenge.
