You're interpolating from the text "all my misdeeds" to additionally mean "the things I've done were actually uncompromisingly good, I literally just make excuses for why they're actually supposed to be crimes, you see." Like the MC would think giving money to the poor would be an incredible evil deed to do because it would make them heavily reliant on his wealth.
When the first chapter clearly doesn't give off that vibe at all. Let's break this down, shall we:
That's not the character betraying the premise, that's the world railroading him to be the saint; which is what the summary points out, what the premise promises, where seemingly none of the plot you and the others put forward could be found.
Now, don't get me wrong, there could be a change into that direction, sure. But for chapter 1? None of that's there. (An update, here: I checked the spoilers from the Light Novel someone provided earlier in the thread, and the direction stays solid, too.)
And you don't have to worry, I'm not offended, and haven't been offended from the start—just baffled.
Though, speaking along those lines, I hope you don't take offense to the things I've said, too. I mean no insult.
