My knowlege is prety small when it comes to MMOs. Is Clown/Jester a common archetype class like mage, swordsman, archer and rouge? And what are it's characteristics and playstyle?

Nah, I'd argue Clown/Jester is a pretty unusual class offering. Doesn't seem to have any jRPG roots afaik, so it'll be interesting to see if that's just a weird translation or the actual class name.

Given that string manipulation seems to be a class skill, maybe it's more of a trapper/illusionist?

Hopefully someone continues this TL cause I really enjoyed this first chapter.

While not very common it has deep roots in classic games, notably the Dragon Quest series. Jester builds are usually agility/dexterity builds, and sometimes include high luck. Fighting style is acrobatics, knife throwing, juggling/throwing, and comedic misdirection such as falling over while secretly readying their weapon.

I can think of one example in manga, "The Reincarnated Exiled Heavy Knight is unrivalled in game knowledge. The character Luce is a clown, who shows up about twenty chapters in.
