GiantEthicist, thank you very much for the wonderful translation of this manga. Seeing Ms. Uchida tackle her cancer with humility and humor is very heartening.
On a personal note, my mom passed away from cancer a few years ago. I really struggled with seeing her go through the medical side of things. She was pretty closed off about the whole process - I think lots of people feel that the procedures they have to go through are demeaning. The lopsided care you can get with so many people involved probably doesn't help either.
To get to the point, seeing it laid out so frankly in this manga has helped me understand what my mom went through and some of what she may have been feeling. Thank you.

Yes.

When the rectum is removed they also close up the butt hole and most of the crack. From the outside it looks pretty much normal, but physically the crack you're left with is MUCH more shallow than you might expect, and feels VERY weird at first. (Source: Personal experience. My colon was removed in 2017 and I have had a permanent stoma ever since.)
