I remember feeling shitty back then that some poor kid got transformed against her will in a monster through magic or alchemy or something. I guess it's good to know they were never actually kids to begin with, not that it's any comfort now that they've infiltrated the refugee camp.

This arc is super-annoying (sudden super-incompetence by the jsdf that is uncharacteristic of what has been shown so far, the prince just randomly deciding to mess everything up for no reason all of a sudden despite how he is having what he wants handed to him, the princess refusing a quick and safe resolution to her war by having jsdf not interfere, the mage somehow letting herself be drugged, jsdf pulling out entirely just because of some minor attack on the gate, etc.). Glad to see that it is at least starting to get past the stuff that was.

i might have missed it along the way, but can someone explain to me the "Order Idaten"? why do they need to pull all military from the other world, alnus, is it just because a potential closure of the Gate?

I agree the shapeshifting kid monsters seem not very well explained considering how tailor made they are against modern doctrine. I mean, not a single refugee, or Leilei, or the professor or anyone knew they exist and are used by the empire until the moment shit hit the fan? This chapter seems to imply they knew these monsters existed.

The order was put in place in the event the gate itself would ever show signs or begin to close, allowing the JSDF to recover all personnel and high value assets. As at the time of the order's creation, they had no means whatsoever of reopening the gate should it close.
