Chinese agents set bombs all around the gate structure. They noticed that the sides and back were sparsely monitored and guarded, and so decided to set up some 'insurance'. The Japanese were too focused on the nexus of the Gate itself, perhaps understandably, but I don't think that the building was ever that important, as we now see.

Watch it! There's no guarantee that the energy of a nuclear explosion wouldn't disperse the gate into a million nexuses (nexia? Nexi?) around the world, each spawning different monsters from different worlds. God, this arc is just a crappy mess.
Itami was too slow. Should've called his guys to shoot a couple of bullets near/at the commander of the Chinese to stop them, because he knew what can be in that dimensional hole. And, after thinking a bit on this whole situation, I'm amazed that they made an immediate ceasefire, like, why the hell did the Japanese even stop to shoot at the Chinese and started talking with them? They blew everything up and shot at you seconds ago!
And the author made the Chinese so stupid that it's just too far beyond being believable for me: the Chinese commander(!) dives right into the hole by himself(!) contrary to using a subordinate for that and all that bullshit instead of using an endoscope (I think they should've had at least a couple of them in their special forces squad equipment just in case) to see what's in there.

Well, I think that being 'bad guys' and utter imbeciles are different things, though, even for propaganda reasons, because there is always some probabilty of starting to believe it, especially when it was made up by oneself, and then one can get a decade long bloody war instead of a swift victory (WWII Japan is a prime example of that, I'd say).

I haven't read this series in ages, can someone tell me who's winning with MC in romance, I checked some chapters ago and it seems to be the elf? I wanted Rory to win OTL

As it was since the beginning, logically it's Rory, it has always been Rory (she contractually acquired his soul way back in the beginning), but the author (idk the mangaka or the author) is always back-and-forth baiting and edging the readers for no good reason (you can make great fan service without spitting into the OTP fans' face like that).

Considering what a shitshow of a work it evolved into, all bets are off, faitw the author might even forget to make Itami chose anyone. Which could be well fleshed out easily, considering he has his reasons, but whatever the ending will be, bet on it being disappointing lmao.
