@phoenix_eD I'd get it if it pulled the rating closer to 5 stars, as that's what's average (and it even says average on it), but it's clearly tugging the mean towards something above an 8, which to me just seems pointlessly high.
In fact, I just searched the website with no filters (other than disabling hentai), sorted by ascending rating and moved forward 94 pages to get past 0 rating titles, and it turns out that the lowest rated thing here is "It's Maka! Not baka!!!" at 3.04. There are no titles rated below that.
Out of a total of approximately 34500 titles on MD with a nonzero rating, only 6 titles (or 0.02% of everything) have a rating between 3 and 4 stars. 20 titles (0.06%) are rated between 4 and 5 stars, and 125 titles (0.36%) are between 5 and 6. That is far, far below the amount of titles that actually deserve ratings of 3, 4 or 5, which everyone who's been here a while knows there are
plenty of.
I'm guessing the same trend extends to 6-star titles as well, though I didn't count all of those because this is already a lot of nerd work for a post in the comments section of what's essentially a poorly-drawn h-manga that somehow got past the filters. The main point here is that whatever numbers are being used to skew the results are just too damn high.
