how stupid do you have to be to not watch your words when given wishes, particularly when he says he the first request/order was interpreted as a wish?

Also, the second 'wish' has absolutely no way to be parsed as a wish or even request/order in any way. And if he really had parsed it as such, it would have given him 1 wish more (by invalidating the counting of the first one (though before that, the first wish would have made the second one not be a wish, as he had to wait a minute for the first wish to have been fulfilled))

This is actually way more accurate to how genies were portrayed initially than in the Disney films.

They are absolute manipulative dickheads. At least my guy ended with a net neutral result.

Now we could argue semantics about whether or not he phrased stuff as a wish or not but genies are assholes and its not like the guy knew better so the genie won't give a fuck here

Ouch...

@FirstDayRegister Nope, genie smart. Minimal effort for maximum reward, literally didn't have to do anything but let the guy talk his way into wasting the wishes.

The first wish was an accident. The second wish was a conversational reaction. You'd think he'd shut his mouth in a hurry and not blow the third one by doing anything that could possibly be interpreted as a wish until he gave it some thought. Or if he had some more wit about him, would sit down and spin a yarn that'd put Scherazade to shame until the genie figured granting an actual wish would be less annoying.

Honestly, given that genie's probably-malicious overly-literal-yet-liberal-interpretation of things said, I think it's safe to say the man got off very lightly. This might even be roughly the best-case scenario.

Letting the genie away without a fuss or being memorable in any way is arguably the right thing to do. He's an omnipotent asshole, even if nominally bound to one's bidding. GTFO, and fast.
