You can really feel why he would love her and how much depth she has. Of course, that extends even to more secondary characters, from his father to his coach to rival players. Even if the story is very generic in the sense that his performance is perfect and tension is low, the world and character building are excellent.

To be honest, so far the tension from this story comes from how his experience and new perspective has affected his relationships. I can trust he's solid and reliable in his performance on the field, and the source of tension is how his actions would affect his teammates and whether they live up to the potential he knows they have.
