Think he’s more afraid what his petite blonde childhood friend wife is gonna do to him now that’s taken on a 2nd wife. Plus, they might gang up on him now
"might"? Optimist.....
He's got a "first wife" who knows how to roast his ears, and now a "second wife" who can literally do so...

He's got every right to be ...Extremely Nervous... about all this.....

Am I the only one who's kind of tired of this particular twist? It's cool when it's done right but nothing about this case feels particularly earned.
This story is one of the early originators of the concept, actually. It's just taken that long to be adapted to manga, and for the adaptation to get to this point in the story, too. LN started 2016, ended 2024, 20 volumes. Manga started in 2017 and is ongoing, and we're at manga volume 14 currently; equivalent to about the end of LN volume 6.

Sorta like Mushoku Tensei and how long it took with its manga; the WN started in late 2012, ended in 2015; the LN started 2014 and ended 2022. The manga also started in 2014, but only releases two volumes a year, and takes longer to tell the same amount of story because of the density of the LN and the difference in format without wanting to compromise the story itself unlike some adaptations; at volume 24 of the manga, we're only just done with the equivalent of the 12th LN volume and currently on the equivalent of LN volume 13... of 26. So, 12 years to get through 4 years of LN.

For those wondering how long it takes to get final answers to these questions:

This chapter is near the end of volume 6 of the LN. Answers happen at volume 17-18 of the LN. Yeah.

That's a long way away. I wonder how long it would take for the manga to reach that point.

That train of thought feels contrived. Wouldn't it be easier to believe others from Souma's world have been summoned in the past leading to the traces of language and familiarity with Ancient Ones then him traveling through time?
I was also thinking it was an odd jump in logic. I guess it makes sense to him if he assumes time moves at the same rate between worlds but with other world stories, its not that weird for time to move differently, so I would have assumed they yoinked a person way in the past. I do appreciate the MC being like, your name is the same name as famous dragons in my world, coincidence, I think not!

would be funny if the "ancient ones" were just in cryostasis orbiting the moon or something and when thawed out activated the totally safe and not malfunctioning due to age remnants of their civ on the planet below.

That's be an awesome twist. At least it isn't as depressing as the version Nier: Automata used.

There was also an unfinished version in the Ghost in the Shell comic where wealthy and powerful housed their bodies in orbit connected to networks to remotely control android bodies. The world wasn't destroyed yet in that series.

Gunnm had something like this too, but they didn't care about returning to Earth.

As someone who dropped the light novel at Vol. 11, I'll keep reading the Manga. It's much better, honestly. The writer in the LN keeps referring to Japan at every opportunity.

It would, if it weren't for the fact that there's multiple places and multiple points of reference throughout local history, without there being enough records of summoned heroes to back it.
Is there more of that in the LN? Because the handful of examples he gave this chapter don't have me convinced. Summoning heroes is already something established in this world. I think it's less a leap of faith that there were Japanese people summoned in the distant past rather than the entire planet was so drastically reshaped that only these trace remnants of Japanese language and pop culture remain. It's not like he found the statue of liberty buried in sand.

Dude!
The nostalgia, as the Dragon mother said. I miss that series.
Played it over the pandemic, unmedicated. Mfer i had to play the other 2 until i got my happy ending cause it ended too sadly/ open ended from the 1st one. Fuck man, i miss when VNs were that ambitous (tho i do think they peaked depravitywise with FMD: Muramasa, and narrativewise with ryukishi0, thankfully he did silent hill f)
