Mmmm, that's right. Isn't the plot based on the human territory being invaded and mostly conquered by the other species and humanity being pushed to the point that it's resource problems have put the species at risk of looming extinction? If I'm remembering right, that makes them the good guys and the main character and the other races very much the bad guys and, regardless of what is done to them, not really deserving of any sympathy.
