Thanks for translating this!

Is this considered a good ending?

I would say it's a good ending, but at what cost? He was really happy after he got gereksiz'd, but it meant throwing away the thing that defined the first half of his life.
But that defining thing was just Baumkuchen, so maybe he is entirely better off throwing it away.

But will he be happy as Delulsion and Sanity is no longer with him, so he’s alone once again. Well not like any of us knows whatever our own choices will make us happy or not.

I think it mostly depends on why he went back there, trees seem involved in this whole thing and when he says "Maybe I'll go back there..." perhaps he meant he wanted to go back, so the tree granted his wish OR his "if I keep telling myself "that's how it is, nothing I can do about it"... Am I even living?" means that from this point on, he will cease to have any impact on the world because he'll be preparing himself for Gereksiz, so the tree just sent him back into Gereksiz because of that.
Truly one of the great pieces of literature.

That line about going back is definitely a little iffy. The JP is vague as to what he means by it but I think the interpretation we, and you, ended up with is best. "Maybe I'll go back..." sort of has a double meaning of "What if I'm sent back" and/or "I want to go back", so it leaves the ending open to discussion whether he ended up useless or if he just got what he wanted.

Well that was quite the ride, thanks for the translation!
I really wanna try being inside the head of authors that write super allegorical and open-ended stories like these, like how would you even pitch this story to a publishing house?

All you would need to do is utter the words, 'Furuya Minoru'

You guys made translating this look easy. I can't thank the people over at 'We Need More Yankiis' scans enough. Just out of curiosity : How long did it take you guys to scanlate the whole thing?

Just 5 days, 1 day to start the tl and the rest for me to edit everything.
It was a breeze to edit, that's usually where our projects get held up.
In terms of TL, we did the base from french and then I have plenty of JP translators I know that I could ask one off questions for stuff we weren't sure about.

Feels like this got cancelled? I think he could've gone for a volume or two more.

Anyway, how do you interpret this story? A lot of the imagery that is being used here makes me think that this whole story was about suicide in some form. A forest, heads popping off, not wanting to be seen by other humans, eating dirt, the weird kodama-esque appearance...
Dunno how the end of the epilogue would fit into this though, running away?
