I mean if you think about it, Halloween existed as a time for kids to go around unsanctioned in their neighborhoods to get candy from houses. So let's imagine before phones and the Internet let you copy costumes at home and then meet up at an agreed upon place before going on a route.
You'd have the parents alone in a house, probably sending the kids to a gathering spot to have them all coordinated and dressed up for about half an hour or an hour or so before they begin their route.
Now you could probably get in the spirit of things and decorate your house and put on your own costume at this point, or just bang until the kids come around. Could also just leave a bowl outside while y'all just fuck in costume or something.

I think a lot of holidays leave a bunch of downtime for adults to fuck while the kids are elsewhere for a bit.
