That's the reason Ai chan went from being my favorite heroine to wanting to see as few of her chapters as possible.

Same here. Their relationship was what brought me into this thing (and the Sensei and the Student but that's not really doing much now), so when they totally changed from Ai/Oniisan to Ai/Volley-bu-chan they ruined a good portion of the series.

This is still my favourite couple out of them all, and I know this isn't really a manga that has progress but progress would be nice instead of another chapter of the status quo

Well, with that one it seems like the author had it planned for them to get together from the start, and Maegami-chan was always super forward too. She made it pretty clear from the first chapter she showed up in that she wanted to pounce on Sensei ASAP
