I've never heard of the name Noll, and upon googling it, I was right, it's not short for Oliver. Why write yourself into a corner like this?

Apparently Noll is a diminutive for Oliver - it’s an “extremely old word”. But again, with the most reliable source being from a grammar blog, it’s unknown if this is actually true. Still, it’s amazing how much research went into pulling this off.

The best I could find was a English Politician/general in the 1500-1600's named Oliver Cromwell. He wasn't well liked so people had lot's of nicknames for him, including "Old Noll" (At least he was called that in Charles Dickens, "A Child's History of England") So it's very old and has only been used once that I could find. But John says here that it was an American pronunciation, so we're back to square one about the truthfulness of the name.
Very likely that the author was reaching, but given how all other facts in the story have been; I willing to let it slide.

wow Monk-san is actually galaxy-brained.

and man, the Eugene's story is really sad. it's a very sad loss. i wish we could have him as one of the living characters 😔

this is kinda an open ending. i'll check the sequel right away fufu

Oliver Horn, the main character in Reign of the Seven Spellblades light novel, anime, and manga, also has the nickname "Noll". So maybe it's a thing in Japan?

Anyway, such an amazing series. I gushed about the entirety of this series in the manga's main page, so I won't say it here. Just about this last volume.

There's so much potential for stretching the story with Naru-Mai-Eugene love triangle and Mai's struggle to decides which one she actually loves as the last arc. But alas. It is touched very lightly here, at least. What a bittersweet first love for Mai. Actually, thinking about it, this last volume is pretty anti-climatic, with most reveal about Naru coming from Monk-san's galaxy brain move. But everything wraps up nicely except for Eugene's killer, so I can't complain much.
