Because the manga still follows the web novel's story, where currently we're at Chapter 3, in which it focuses on the flashbacks for 12 parts. (yes, we're still very early in the story, despite we're at 70+ chapters).
I dunno how many chapters needed for the flashbacks in the manga version, but I hope it's less than 5 chapters...

In this case, the manga follows the Light Novel, we're currently at the start of LN Volume 4 where this part last 5 chapters and at the end of 74 we're already 3 chapters in out of those 5 flashback ones, LN Volume 4 have a total of 20 Chapters + 2 Extras
Since originally in the WN this arc was after Sasha's, but due to the LN adding 3 more races it was moved after the Dark Elves ones which is Volume 3

I was confused as hell at first. You can't end the previous chapter with "3 years ago..." and without transition, expect everyone to remember that at the start of the next chapter. Especially when it doesn't follow the standard convention of having a black background during a flashback.

Meh, it would be nice if they didn't skipped all 3 years, wtf is the author doing?
I would be more glad to see this chapter after the chapter Light summoned Mei in the deepest part of the abyss. It would make the world building more enjoyable. IMHO
