Mmmh, nope. The MC is clearly supposed to be Yamada. He's our "eyes" in this world, we only see things from his point of view.
Also, what drives the plot isn't really a person it seems, but this "internet voting" phenomenon that is screwing up the world. It's not Yamada's nor Papiko's actions... yet, at least.

Oh, and I can't really identify myself as a Japanese kid who's no even half my age, so he clearly isn't my "selfinsert" in this story.

I love how people like you always try to force their point of view by insulting others in their "arguments"...
What I would do in his shoes is probably try to get out of the way, try to save myself so someone doesn't need to risk their life to save mine.
Him running towards the giant, crying his eyes out and with no intention or means to help at all is dumb.
And I call him a manipulative baby not because he is crying now, but because in previous chapters he cried to get what he wanted... that's emotional blackmail, and it's usually done by babies.



I must say, thanks to the polarizing comments on this chapter, I finally understood something. This story is actually shit, the only thing this manga has is making us love or hate its characters... so I should drop this.

@aFFi Being POV character doesn't mean he/she becomes MC. Watson was often POV character but Sherlock was always MC. Same in Kakegurui with what'shisname and Yumeko.

I'd say it's a pretty rational (or emotional?) response from the male MC, given his background and age (remember, only by age 21-23 is the prefrontal cortex fully formed, which allows one to regulate emotional responses, so he can't process everything he's seeing with a cool mind). Now Chiho-san at least had the guts to fight and protect the one she loves. But I guess you guys don't like that, huh. >_>
