Can anyone explain just why have they been trying to kill those things with what seem to be standard rifles only? It's about time they actually tried something with more firepower. It only took them the massacre of an entire island and whatever time has passed since the start of this disaster. Couldn't they have flown aircrafts over the island to investigate and bomb as needed? Suspension of disbelief is one thing. This is just insulting the readers' intelligence.

Also, what's a woman doing in the army? On the frontlines against a mutant/alien with superstrength no less.
