I'm on the side that doesn't like surprise gifts. It increases the chances that it's something I don't want or need by 100%. As far as the feeling of being surprised, it's neither good nor bad. Picking something I want feels good, getting surprised with something I want also feels good.

But getting surprised with something I don't want is awful. I have to act like I'm happy so not to be an asshole, then I have to deal with getting rid of the thing, and feeling bad at the waste of money, and feeling bad about being insincere. It's high risk, low reward.

Don't worry about what other thing about your gift toward your bf ...as long he the one who enjoy it ....

Speaking of Maaya ...even her bf have headache dealing with her despite he can tame her sometimes

I know they discussed it beforehand, but no "the present is me"? :meguuusad:
Maybe christmas...
Hope it's the next birthday
Not for at least next 2 year ....they ...mostly saki ...need to meet few more people b4 she can finally actually think about that kind of thing

"It's fun when your expectations are betrayed and you get excited! This is what entertainment is all about!"

The irony of a mangaka saying that in this modern manga climate is fantastic.

I have so many surprised gifts that I cannot use at all. I appreciate if people ask and gift something useful, so nothing is wasted.

Well, the author used the word "neck warmer"
the text was inside the official raws itself (the pic)
ネックウォーマー
  • Neck warmer = ネックウォーマー (nekk(u) wōmā)
  • Scarf = マフラー (mafurā)

As someone who's birthday is on a national holiday I've never had my family forget it but damn I would probably be at least a little salty if my dad forgot my birthday.

Surprises are good as a kid and it gets progressively more pointless as you get older.

They can also be referred to as a snood or a buff (though buff is a brand name I see it used generically a lot)

With her wrapped ~~naked~~ in a red ribbon?
Somehow I don't think it's that kind of manga.

Some surprise gifts are great; some surprise gifts are not so great. Personally I think we remember the not so great gifts more than the great gifts. I have many gifts that I really like that I'm sure were a surprise when I got them, but the surprise gift that sticks out in my mind is the (and I'm not making a joke here) pair of battery powered socks. Copper wire running through a pair of socks powered by a 9v battery are supposed to keep your feet warm somehow without burning you. I never wore them and finally threw them out about five years after getting them for Christmas.

Thanks for the chapter.

Useful gift trumps surprise gift every time: the best is when you are able to get someone something they enjoy without asking, because it convey the message "I think of you, and know you so well that I can get you something you didn't know you needed".

If you are not still able, since you have just started your relationship, it's better to ask, because you are saying "I want this gift to be about you, and an opportunity to better understand what you like".

Of course, if you were really committed you would have started asking about what they like months in advance, but that is another matter...
