Oh, apparently the author did commentary on the song selection for Girl meets Rock.
You can find it linked at the bottom of chapter 58 (for how long that stays online) or you may use this finely crafted link here:

And since I suspect this will be depublished or inaccessabilified at some point…

#001-004
I Don't Wanna Die(あいどんわなだい)
GING NANG BOYZ(銀杏BOYZ)
The lyrics might be a bit intense for a high schooler, but when I first created Tamaki, I could vividly imagine her belting it out and having a blast. That’s why I chose it.

#008
everything is my guitar
andymori
As the title suggests, it's a wonderful song that captures the early impulses of rock music. For Hatono, who could barely play guitar yet, this was the only song I could picture her singing by herself, channeling her situation and her painful past.

#009
Bankuruwase(番狂せ)
Hump Back(Hump Back)
A rock number by Hump Back. The three members of sound sleep have been huge fans of this band for ages.

Enjo Kousai(援助交際)
GING NANG BOYZ(銀杏BOYZ)
The original is great, but I also highly recommend CreepHyp's cover.

#013
Haikei, Shonen Yo(拝啓、少年よ)
Hump Back(Hump Back)
This is Momo's theme song. I couldn't think of a better song for cheering Momo on, so I had Hatono sing it for her.

#015
Kimi wa Rock wo Kikanai(君はロックを聴かない)
Aimyon(あいみょん)
Since this was Hatono’s first time singing as a vocalist in front of everyone, I chose a song that real light music clubs frequently play.

#016
Toumei Shoujo(透明少女)
Number Girl(ナンバーガール)
Hatono loves 90s Japanese alternative rock, so her training arc was all about performing iconic songs from that era. "Toumei Shoujo" is one of those classics.

#017
Life(生活)
syrup16g(syrup 16g)
This song is a hallmark of 2000s alternative rock. The lyrics may be pessimistic, but they carry a powerful will to live, making it a perfect match for Hatono.

#018
Sekitou(赤橙)
ACIDMAN(ACIDMAN)
This is another hallmark of 2000s alternative rock. I’d initially planned a different song for this scene, but after seeing the passion in Hatono’s expression that Ideuchi-sensei drew, I decided on this one instead.

#019
Kaiju no Hanauta(怪獣の花唄)
Vaundy(Vaundy)
The upbeat, liberating tone of this song felt like a perfect match for Reiha, who is truly a "beast."

#020
Spica(スピカ)
Spitz(スピッツ)
The opening lyrics reflect Hatono’s mindset during her training arc, while the chorus feels like a message to Tamaki. I knew I wanted a Spitz song here, but picking the right one was tough.

#025
REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (The Rebel Age)理由なき反抗(The Rebel Age)
a flood of circle(a flood of circle)
This was the only song that felt right as both the culmination of Hatono’s training and a message to Ayame. In a way, Hatono's practice wasn't a rational choice, but an act of rebellion.

#027
Rin To(凛と)
CreepHyp(クリープハイプ)
Ayame chose this song when she went to karaoke with Rin. Ayame loves CreepHyp, so this song will probably make another appearance.

#028
Namonaki Uta(名もなき詩)
Mr.Children(Mr.Children)
A massive hit from the 90s. It’s a bit too mainstream for Hatono’s taste, but I didn’t want to judge a song’s worth by its popularity, so I went with it anyway.

#035
The Dance Calling UFO(UFOを呼ぶダンス)
POP NEVER DIES(ポップしなないで)
This quirky, offbeat pop song felt like a perfect match for Ruri. I can picture her changing her vocal style between the verses and chorus, just like the original artist.

#036
Jitterbug(ジターバグ)
ELLEGARDEN(ELLEGARDEN)
It’s a staple number that’s been played by light music clubs in Japan for years. I thought it would be a perfect symbol for the light music club in general and for the band heartbreak in particular.

Dramaturgy(ドラマツルギー)
Eve(Eve)
This is one of Takami's theme songs. It makes you wonder if Takami is putting on an act in the light music club, pretending to be someone he’s not. In any case, I think it’s a tough song to perform.

#037
Jitterbug(ジターバグ)
ELLEGARDEN(ELLEGARDEN)
It’s a staple number that’s been played by light music clubs in Japan for years. I thought it would be a perfect symbol for the light music club in general and for the band heartbreak in particular.

#040
Linda Linda(リンダリンダ)
THE BLUE HEARTS(THE BLUE HEARTS)
I came up with the idea of having Hatono stop singing right before the iconic "Linda Linda" shout in the chorus and added it at the last minute. Maybe one day she’ll sing the whole thing.

#041
Koisuru(恋する)
SHISHAMO(SHISHAMO)
This song portrays the feelings of a girl who falls in love with her friend, which reminded me of an episode from Tamaki’s past, so I used its opening. I also thought the song's upbeat intro would be perfect for the After-Festival Concert.

#042
Yume de Aetara(夢で逢えたら)
GING NANG BOYZ(銀杏BOYZ)
The lyrics are close to how Tamaki must have felt when she was in love with her tutor, Hikari.

Kibun Joujou↑↑(気分上々↑↑)
mihimaru GT(mihimaru GT)
This song has strong hip-hop vibes, which is rare for this manga. The cover made for the anime Ya Boy Kongming! brought it back into the limelight.

#043
Kagayakidashite Hashitteku(輝きだして走ってく)
Sambomaster(サンボマスター)
When Tamaki was at her lowest, this song gave her the strength to stand up and move forward. I believe all Sambomaster songs have that kind of uplifting power.

#045
Angel Baby(エンジェルベイビー)
GING NANG BOYZ(銀杏BOYZ)
I chose this song to represent the pinnacle of Tamaki's youth. Even though the original lyrics are likely from a male perspective, the story of an outcast finding salvation in rock music fits her perfectly.

Spica(スピカ)
Spitz(スピッツ)
The opening lyrics reflect Hatono’s mindset during her training arc, while the chorus feels like a message to Tamaki. I knew I wanted a Spitz song here, but picking the right one was tough.

#050
16(16)
andymori(andymori)
Hatono sings this on her 16th birthday, but the lyrics convey a profound sense of the loneliness that comes with growing up. Maybe one day she’ll look back fondly on being 16.

#058
Shinumade ni Ore ga Yaritai Koto(死ぬまでに俺がやりたいこと)
yangskinny(ヤングスキニー)
This song is like an explosion of youthful energy. Its vigor and intensity mirror Yonsu's character, so I chose this song for him.

The lyrics in the official translation are still not there, but are now replaced with musical notes 🎶🎵♪♫♬. Though why the ♬ is partially cut off in every instance is anyone’s guess.
