Heartbreak Scans, the group that has been scanlating Girl Meets Rock! since chapter 30, has come to a decision on what to do moving forward, given the resumption of official translations:

On November 23rd, MangaPlus resumed the official English translation of Girl Meets Rock!

This caught everyone by surprise. Girl Meets Rock! had been off MangaPlus since June 29th, which meant since chapter 28 (inclusive) there had been no official English translation of the manga. Chapters 28 and 29 were scanlated by an anonymous group. After a period of radio silence Heartbreak Scans was founded to scanlate chapter 30 and onward. Most of us had no previous scanlation experience. Since then we have scanlated 19 chapters in total.

Given that the original pretext for our scanlation no longer exists, and the fact that we do want to support the translation of works like GMR officially into English, Heartbreak Scans will stop regularly scanlating Girl Meets Rock! However, lyrics are completely censored in the official release and in the case of GMR, they are often important for characterization and storytelling. Hence we intend to continue to translate content not officially available in English, namely (1) chapters with substantial lyrics that are censored in the official release, and (2) bonus chapters that are currently exclusive to the Japanese tankoubon volumes (known as chapters 12.5, 21.5, 30.5, and 39.5).

Moving forward, Heartbreak Scans will:

1. Do original scanlations of future chapters with substantial lyrics that have been censored in the English release. These scanlations would be done from scratch using the Japanese text and raws, in compliance with MangaDex rule 1.3.
   1. We do not plan on doing scanlations of lyric chapters that had already been officially translated but then retrospectively censored (basically any lyrics before chapter 28). Those chapters are still available elsewhere, uncensored.
2. Continue doing original scanlations of bonus chapters that aren’t featured on MangaPlus, which are currently exclusive to the Japanese tankoubon volumes. For the immediate future we will work on:
   1. Chapter 30.5 (volume 3 bonus chapter)
   2. Chapter 39.5 (volume 4 bonus chapter)
3. We still intend to work together as a group on Girl Meets Rock! content. This may include making original fanworks, scanlating doujinshi–to be determined.

If you bookmark the series on MangaDex you will see new chapters when they appear. These releases will also be announced on the usual channels.

It has been a privilege to work on this series and to be so regarded by readers. We still hope to continue contributing in the small ways we can.
